Fully Lined Under Seat Dry Storage For The Calusa

Towee is pleased to begin offering fully lined dry storage lockers in our Calusa under seat storage. In the past, these were a semi-dry compartment that made use of every possible cubic inch of space but did require that clothing be placed in a dry bag. The new fully lined lockers turn this space into true dry storage with minimal lost usable space.  Give us a call today to discuss your new skiff build.

Towee Pro Staff Welcomes Henry Cowen

Lanier striper winter

Towee Boats is very pleased to announce the addition to Henry Cowen to our Pro Staff. Henry has always been known as a superb angler, boatman and a “guides guide” and we were honored when he chose Towee to collaborate on his next skinny water skiff. Henry will join the rest of our Pro Staff to not only represent Towee Boats but to provide valuable design input and feedback .

Henry has been pursuing striped bass for nearly 40 years in both salt and fresh water. He is currently guiding in fresh water on Lake Sidney Lanier, Lake Allatoona and the Chattahoochee River near Atlanta for landlocked stripers, hybrids, spotted bass and carp. Henry is an accomplished fly designer as his trademarked fly patterns are sold worldwide through Umpqua Feather Merchants. His fly patterns as well as techniques to fly fish continue to appear in magazines such as American Angler, Fly Fish America, Fly Tyer, Fly Fisherman, Angler Magazine and Eastern Fly Fishing.

Currently Henry’s name appears on the masthead of both American Angler and Angler Magazine as a contributing writer/editor. Henry was named to the esteemed Yellow Dog Fly Fishing field advisory staff. Henry continues to give seminars on light tackle & fly fishing in both fresh and salt waters. Katie Blizzard Takes Big Fish and Willen/Chocklett/Schultz Win Hardly, Strictly Musky 2016

team pic_DSC1582

After the dust finally settled and the smoke quickly cleared, Chris Willen, Mike Schultz and Blane Chocklett walked away with the Paul Puckett art telecaster trophy as Overall Grand Champions of Hardly, Strictly Musky 2016.

Presented by Towee Boats, Costa, Flood Tide and Patagonia, this year’s event drew  an even 70 registered anglers from 16 states – as far West as Colorado, as far North as New York and as far South as Florida to the Collins River near McMinnville, Tennessee to chase river musky on the fly and experience a long weekend of great food, great drink and great friends.  Festivities kicked off with the traditional welcome party at The Foglight Foodhouse on Thursday night where anglers were treated to a Cajun meal put out by Chef Philpot and his crew. Patagonia, Costa, Flood Tide and Flymen made sure that the angler goodie bags were chocked full of swag.

Day one saw five fish released with a quickly approaching approaching cold front. There were lots of active mid sized fish and most anglers had multiple shots throughout the day.  John Mauser of Team Project Healing Waters/TFO held the lead with a 35 1/2 inch fish at the end of day one which was capped off with a Friday The 13th Party at Towee Boats and tons of door prizes including lots of Patagonia packs and boat bags.

Day Two dawned much colder with less active fish. At 11:50 am Maryland angler Katie Blizzard released a 42 3/4 inch fish which would hold as this year’s biggest. Minutes later and many miles away, Michigan angler Mike Schultz released at solid 41 1/2 inch fish just short of Blizzard’s high mark. Within the hour Schultz followed up with a 36 to pull his team ahead in overall points. Virginia’s Blane Chocklett ended the dat with a 40 inch fish that sealed the deal for them and their teammate Chris Willen of Wisconsin and Tennessee.

With the fishing over, anglers got back to the important things on Saturday night – more good food and craft beer at the newly restored Park Theater in downtown McMinnville for Costa Movie Night and the guitar trophy presentation.

We would like to thank Flymen, Hatch, Monic, Regal, TFO, Southern Culture on the Fly and Schultz Outfitters for all they did to make this event possible. A huge thanks goes to Mandy Eller and the crew at the McMinnville – Warren County Chamber of Commerce for all they do to promote our fishery and make good things happen and McMinnville Mayor Jimmy Haley for his continued support. And while we had a huge number of people who pitched in to help out, a special thanks goes to Steve Tatarchuk, Greg Morgan, Tommy Hensley, Gary Soloway and Eric Cohen for all they did to make this event come off smoothly.

Most of all we would like to thank our anglers – we just provide a place for this all to happen – it’s the anglers who always have and always will make Hardly, Strictly Musky what it is. You folks rock.

We literally started planning for next year’s event with an impromptu board meeting around the fire ring just after Midnight as the last anglers were turning in. Stay tuned for news on Hardly, Strictly Musky #6 May 11th-13th, 2017. It’ll be the biggest and baddest yet with several new twists. We look forward to seeing you all on the river.

Towee Skiff on Permanent Display at Texas Coast Cabelas

At Towee Boats, we’ve built specialized skiffs for just about every shallow water application imaginable but we were surprised by one recent client who placed an order a new skiff that would never touch the water. Cabela’s, of Sydney Nebraska, ordered a sweet Towee skiff for permanent display in their new League City, Texas store. Located halfway between Houston and Galveston Island, the League City store serves the Southeast Texas coast. The Dank skiff with poling platform sits high above the floor dominating the entire Northwest corner of the building. Cabelas’ artist painted a gorgeous sunset sky and water background that wraps around the corner behind the skiff. One angler is preparing to release a redfish while the other admires the fish from atop the poling platform.

Just in case you are wondering – yes, it is a fully functional skiff complete with outboard. Built exactly like any other – this one just happens to have a unique job. If your travels take you to the Galveston area, be sure to stop by and take a look.Towee

Towee Love In THE DRAKE

Its been a while since we’ve been able to sit down and enjoy reading through a copy of THE DRAKE so imagine our surprise when we found several Towee pics and references in the latest issue starting with Andrea Mason’s awesome musky catch featured in PAGE SIX CHIX. Andrea’s beautiful Upper Wisco Flambeau river pig came on a trip with Towee Pro Chris Willen while fishing from his Calusa.

Over on page 108, Lee Church and Corey Kruitbosch’s article MINNESOTA MUSKY features some great pics of Towee Pro Brian “Lucky” Porter and Chris Willen fishing from Lucky’s Dank Calusa. And while you’re back there, check out our friend Dave Karczynski’s great stories and pics on page 132 – no Towees but a great piece as well. IMG_4304

Costa Rican Calusa

How do you make a tropical paradise even better? How about stocking the mountain rivers with big browns so that you can throw streamers at trout in the morning and pole for tarpon in the afternoon?  We just completed this build for a Costa Rican client who guides for both and chose the Rivermaster Calusa as the one boat that can handle it all.
